چکیده

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an essential part of clinical imaging due to its ability to render high soft tissue contrast. Instead of ionizing radiation, MRI use strong magnetic field, radio frequency waves and field gradients to create diagnostic useful images. It can be used to image the anatomy and also functional and physiological activities within the human body. Knowledge of the basic physical principles underlying MRI acquisition is vitally important to successful image production and proper image interpretation. This lecture will give an overview of the spin physics, imaging principle of MRI, the hardware of the MRI scanner, and various pulse sequences and their applications. It aims to provide a conceptual foundation to understand the image formation process of a clinical MRI scanner. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 2. Understand the origin of the MR signal and contrast from the spin physics level. 3. Understand the main hardware components of a MRI scanner and their purposes 4. Understand steps for MR image formation including spatial encoding and image reconstruction 5. Understand the main kinds of MR pulse sequences and their characteristics.

The Relationship Between Morphology of Lumbar Disc Herniation and MRI Changes in Adjacent Vertebral Bodies

Background: Intervertebral disc herniation has two common types, extrusion and protrusion, which may affect the adjacent vertebrae. In addition, it is associated with significant signal changes in T1 MRI (short TR/TE) and T2 MRI (long TR/TE).   Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional analytic one, in which sampling was performed retrospectively. Cases were randomly selected from the pa...

I-45: Advance MRI Sequences in Pelvic Endometriosis

Background: To assess MRI in diagnosing endometriotic lesions, emphasizing T2*weighted imaging efficacy. Materials and Methods: This prospective study of 48 females (22-38 years, average 29.6) clinically suspected of endometriosis from September 2009 to April 2012. MRI was performed with a 1.5 T imager (Siemens) with a body array coil. T1, T2 and T2* weighted (2D-FLASH) sequences were obtained ...

I-42: MRI Evaluation of Congenital Uterine Anomalies

Mullerian duct anomalies are an uncommon but often treatable cause of infertility. Patients with müllerian duct anomalies are known to have a higher incidence of infertility, repeated first-trimester spontaneous abortions, fetal intrauterine growth retardation, fetal malposition, preterm labor, and retained placenta. The role of imaging is to help detect, diagnose, and distinguish surgically co...

Possidilities of Physiological Temperature Measurement with Magnetic Resonance Imaging

MRI is based on electromagnetic signals which are evoked by high frequency pulses applied to the body causing the nuclear spin of the protons to precess with a certain resonance frequency, when placed in an homogeneous magnetic field, and then to relax again. The signal depends on the following three complex parameters defined in magnetic resonance imaging [I]: the proton density, the longitudi...
